Jane Austen Birthday Celebration at an Okemo Lodging

Inn Victoria, a Chester Vermont Bed and Breakfast,  sponsored a very special weekend of celebration for all lovers of Jane Austen, the Regency era, High Tea, and etiquette.  The weekend of December 17 - 19 held a very special time for guests of Inn Victoria and the Hugging Bear B&B across the street.  That's right!....The Inn Victoria filled every room to capacity, thus partnered with the Hugging Bear Inn to accept more guests who wished to take part in the fun.  This agenda was packed with fun.

  • Pride & Prejudice on the Big Screen in the parlor  (8' X 10')
  • Two formal afternoon teas   "High Tea"
  • Three book reviews....one by author; Doris Nieves.   Misconceptions:  Pride and Prejudice: A Conclusion
  • Two breakfasts, each with five courses....yes, FIVE!
  • English Christmas dinner served Saturday evening
  • Actress / performer Kandie Carle, a performance of "From Corset to Gloves"
Although the Inn Victoria accommodations were filled for the weekend, several local residents of the Okemo Valley attended the High Tea and performance by Kandie Carle..  "It is our hope," says Penny Cote, owner of Inn Victoria , "by offering the special High Tea and performance by Kandie Carle, the event will be more accessible to people in the communities surrounding Chester.  Yes, we want to attract business to Chester, however we also want to encourage local communities to be involved in these special events".

Romantic Vermont Vacation Getaway

Christmas giving is wonderful, but giving for the love of it is becoming a tradition at this Okemo Lodging.  Inn Victoria, a Romantic Vermont Bed and Breakfast received three gifts from guests in the last month!

A few months ago we hosted a wonderful couple celebrating their 60th wedding annaversary. Bert and Betty loved their stay here so much, their son Brian and daughter in law Maria, decided to stay with us several weeks later.....just to check it out and be sure .."is this for real"?  They came to Inn Victoria with a beautiful tea cup for our collection.  A very nice couple with lots of love to give.

It is amazing the nice people that stay with us.

This week a gracious family from South Africa joined us for five nights and loved their stay so much they decided to stay another three nights.  The Jacobs family gave of themselves to us in a very precious way, through prayer, piano playing, enjoying some of the local US traditions, and each day came back to Inn Victoria with some candy, cheese or other delicious item they came across that day.

Danielle Cote, our daughter in law is visiting us with our son, Sgt. Seth Cote of the Iron Horse Division of the US Army from Fort Hood Texas.  Danielle is an accomplished artist and decided to give of herself in a very special way....take a look at these wonderful liquor glasses!...No, they are not for sale!

I'd say we are loved....and blessed!

Victorian Inn Southern Vermont with High Tea

Penny and I, celebrated Christmas with a number of guests from Inn Victoria who decided Christmas would be peaceful and relaxing at this beautiful Victorian in Southern Vermont.  Sure enough it has been a splendid, relaxing day for all.  We enjoyed wine, meals, conversation ...lots of reading, and the greatest blessing of all, the entire Cote family under one roof again.

Many of our guests hear about our family but rarely get to meet them, so we decided to post some photos of the gang.  Seth and his wife Dannielle are here from Fort Hood TX, Sarah and her husband are here from Manchester CT (with 4 month old Anna), and Rachel finished her first semester at Norwich U with a 4.0.  yea...Daddy is just a little proud of the gang, for sure!  The greatest gift a mom and dad could ask for at Christmas is the entire family under the same roof....Praise God, we've been blessed.

Enjoy the photos.

Pinske Art Studio in Chester Vermont, Okemo Valley

Traveling North to ski Okemo Mountain?
Visiting friends in the Chester Vermont area?
Staying at Vermont's Best rated "Romantic Vermont Bed and Breakfast"?
Looking for a quiet Romantic Getaway at an Okemo Valley Lodging?

Make it a point to stop at Pinske's Art Gallery on Rt # 103 NW on your way through Chester Depot.  Berry Pinske challenged himself to carve 30 pine tree log bears in 30 days....and he did it!

Barre Pinske's work has been highlighted in the Boston Globe, USA today and on CNN. Famous people who own Pinske pieces include Steven Tyler of Aerosmith and Prince. The Pentagon even gave a carved Bear and Eagle sculpture to the Russians!

a-yah ....I'd say he is well worth the visit next time you are in Chester.

Tripadvisor honors Inn Victoria with "2010 Award of Excellence"

In late November I posted a blog announcing:  " Inn Victoria, an Okemo Valley Lodging,  Earns a "2010 Award of Excellence" from TripAdvisor"!!   TripAdvisor has rated Inn Victoria, a Romantic Vermont  Bed and Breakfast, a full five point rating out of a total possible five!!!

I promised then that I would display a copy of the award on a blog; well, here it is!  More than anyone, Penny earned the award for Inn Victoria.  So here she is, proud as can be.  She had the award framed and now hangs on the wall with other previously prestigious awards the Inn Victoria has earned in the past.  In 2009 the Inn earned "Best Romantic Bed and Breakfast in Vermont" by Yankee Magazine.  In 2008 Inn Victoria earned Tripadvisors' recognition, "10 Best B&B's in the US".

Vermont Okemo Valley Snow / Ski Report From Inn Victoria, Chester and Okemo Lodging

Snow, Snow, Snow!  Remember the beautiful tune in Bing Cosby's "White Christmas"?  Vermont Snow is here for sure!  Okemo Mountain, located 20 minutes from Inn Victoria, a Chester Vermont Bed and Breakfast, now has 48 trails and 11 lifts open.  We have enjoyed several guests at Inn Victoria in the last two weeks who have skied the early trials and they tell me this is the best early season snow they've seen in years.  The nights have been cold and great for building a solid 24" base with man made snow.  Lots of natural snow is coming this week as well.

Skiers often want to enjoy a nice, double jacuzzi, or hot tub after a day of skiing.  That sort of luxury is not often found in surrounding lodges.  Inn Victoria does have Okemo Valley's finest Romantic Lodging, baths, jaccuzzis and hot tub available for guests in bathrooms larger than most B&B bed rooms.  We are so proud of our luxury baths that we decided to hire a professional model to show off our double jaccuzies and hot tub.

Take a look!

Inn Victoria in Chester VT Hires an Assistant Innkeeper!

Jessica Kinsley of Chester, Vermont has been hired as a full time Innkeeper for Inn Victoria, a Romantic Vermont Bed and Breakfast.  "Jessica is a perfect addition to our niche"; says Penny Cote, the President of Inn Victoria.  "We realize that there are not too many Bed and Breakfasts in the Okemo Valley that can hire a full time innkeeper, however our business has been booming since we made some extensive improvements to marketing.  Jessica came on with us as a temporary helper for the busy season and has proven herself a worthy asset to our business.  We hope that she will grow with us as we grow the business over the years to come.

Jessica aspires to obtain a degree in the hospitality industry and has all the right attributes to make her  successful in this industry.  She is very bright, has an exceptional work ethic and is a natural with customer service.

Our goal is to engage Jessica in every aspect of the business, giving her the opportunity to excel with her customer service and cooking skills.

Murder Mystery at Inn Victoria, in Okemo Valley

Who done it?  That question was answered last week at Inn Victoria's Murder Mystery Weekend, and the perpetrator arrested for murder in the quiet village of Chester, Vermont.  Prince Earnest, the brother of Consort Prince Albert of Inn Victoria, a Romantic Vermont Bed and Breakfast, was indeed arrested for murder last week.  Yes, much to the surprise of several guests at Inn Victoria that weekend, Earnest was charged with the death of his brother.

A full house of guests at Inn Victoria as well as a full house at the Hugging Bear Inn, made for a lively weekend of searching and scheming with several of the village business owners, to finally get down to the point:..."who done it?" As well as a hearty dinner and movie night on an 8' x 10' screen on which we watched "Murder on the Orient Express".  Over 20 people gathered at the following businesses to assemble clues and reason through the Murder Mystery:
  • MacLaomainn's Scottish Pub
  • Meditrina, wine, beer and cheese
  • The Pear Tree Shop
  • Misty Valley Book Store
  • Chester Historical Society
  • The Teddy Bear shop
  • DaValia
In the end, the perpetrator was arrested as detailed in the attached photos.  Yes all is safe and quiet once again in the village of Chester, Vermont.  Not so within the walls of Inn Victoria however, it appears as though another event is brewing for the month of March. Watch the "Packages" page of Inn Victoria to prepare yourself for a March event...as details unfold, an all out call for help will be made outside of the Okemo Valley Lodging community.

Inn Victoria of Chester Vermont, Inn Keepers Return Fom Vacation

Inn Keepers of Inn Victoria, an Okemo Valley Loddging Bed and Breakfast, return from vacation refreshed and thrilled to be in the business!
"Ahhhhh, Vacation was great!" Says Dan and Penny after stepping down the gangway of the Holland America ship.  "We love to travel and compare our service against other well known service venues around the world.  We learned a lot on this trip and we hope to share some of our experiences with our guests."

It was relaxing and we accomplished a lot of marketing.  Penny put lots of hours into her dissertation and is feeling much better about her prospects of finishing the paper by late spring when it is due.
Who minds the shop while we are away?  Jessica and Cindy, are the two who have made it possible for us to sail the southern seas of the Caribbean.  Without these two, we'd have to close the Inn....we do not want to do that.  THANK YOU ladies for making this possible for us and carrying on our tradition of "Exceptional Service".  From what we hear from guests through e-mails, they were well fed,  loved the bedding system, and especially loved the temporary inn keepers!

Inn Victoria, a Chester Vermont Bed and Breakfast Earns an "Award of Excellence" from TripAdvisor

Inn Victoria, a Chester Vermont Bed and Breakfast, earns an "Award of Excellence 2010" from TripAdvisor.  TripAdvisor has rated Inn Victoria, a Romantic Okemo Valley Lodging Bed and Breakfast, a full five point rating out of five possible.

To say that we are excited is an understatement!!......we are thrilled to be recognized by our guests as
The Best of the Best in our industry!  Thank you for making this a reality for us!  As you know, the name of our corporation is "Exceptional Experience", and we firmly believe that providing an exceptional experience is what we should focus on.  There is no better way to distinguish ourselves from the myriad of Bed and Breakfasts in Vermont, than to sincerely seek excellence in everything we do.  Our guests obviously agree, and we humbly thank each of you for making your views known.

This award was a surprise to us; it showed up in the mail, wrapped in a very nice business envelope.  We opened the envelope and let it set on the counter for a few days until we finally had time to study the words on the certificate.  "For Real!!....we are being distinguished by the travel industry's most prestigious rating organization, TripAdvisor!!!"  Penny drove to a local frame shop that same day and had the award framed.  It now hangs in the parlor along with the two other prestigious awards that have been bestowed on the Inn Victoria; Yankee Magazines' "Best Romantic B&B in VT for 2009" and TripAdvisor's 2008 "10 Best B&B's in the US".

I guess I just had to brag a little!..............We'll take a picture of the award and post it in a future blog for you to see.

Visitors from Paraguay LOVE Vermont and Inn Victoria

A few weeks ago we enjoyed the company of a couple from Paraguay who were thrilled to finally fulfill a life dream to visit Vermont during peak foliage.  They chose Inn Victoria in Chester Vermont, awarded Okemo Valley's most distinguished lodging by Tripadvisor "2010 Award of Excellence".

Here is a thank you note we received from Queña and Flaco, just today.

"Dear Penny and Dan,
Finally we manage to have the time to answer your kind mail.  We want to thank you for the wonderful time we spent in the Inn Victoria.  We didn't imagine we would find such a lovely place and people there.  We really loved being received at the train station by a Victorian gentleman to the surprise of the rest of the passengers.  It was a very warm and friendly welcome to the beginning of an incredible stay in the Inn Victoria at Chester.  Food and accommodations were superb.  Penny as a chef was magnificent; every day she surprised us with another delicious breakfast and if all that wasn't enough, we had the great pleasure of being driven around the best of Vermont by Dan, the most charming driver in town.  We really, really enjoyed our time there.  It was a lovely experience that we recommend to our friends and family here.  We hope we see each other very soon again.
Warm regards,
Queña and Flaco"

Whenever a guest travels to Inn Victoria from one of the East coast cities by train, I pick them up at the train station with my full Top Hat and Victorian Period gentleman's formal wear.  It sure is a site to see all of the faces when I pick up our guests.  This is the train station experience Quena speaks of.  I gave them a chauffeured tour of Vermont sites for three days, and believe me, they saw The Best of Vermont in those three days.

Ahhhh.........I love this job!!!

What do the Owners of Inn Victoria, Chester Vermont do While on Vacation?

It is hard to imagine what Innkeepers do on vacation; travel the world?, Hide from people?, Sleep?.  The owners of Inn Victoria, a Chester Vermont Bed and Breakfast, are traveling with Holland America Cruise Lines to experience the Panama Canal and Costa Rica.

It is funny how two people like Penny and I specialize in service to others while at the Inn, but seek total seclusion for a vacation.  Because we know how difficult it must be from your vantage point how it is to imagine such a thing, we thought we'd give you one photo that says it all.  Here's Dan, preparing for departure in his Holland America Cruise to the Panama Canal

Over the coming few weeks we will share some of our experiences while on vacation.  Believe it or not, we too need a vacation.  Certainly not from guests; after all we so enjoy serving and getting to know each of our guests, enjoying conversation and family discussions, talking about where the best place on earth might be to explore next, or how many of the "1000 Best Places to Visit" have our guests been to.

And then, there is the endless list of things WE DO need a vacation from:

• Laundry
• Mail
• Bills
• Building upkeep and maintenance
• Interruptions at every conceivable moment….oh yes!...EVERY!
• Cleaning
• Cooking
• Marketing

No doubt, no fear...we'll be back soon.  For now we'll enjoy the quiet life aboard the Holland America Cruise line to the South Caribbean islands, beaches, and coconut rum.

Penny on a Harley Davidson Motorcycle

The CEO of Inn Victoria, a Chester Vermont Romantic Bed and Breakfast, rides high on a Harley Davidson motor cycle! That's right, (for a moment), Penny sat on a Harley Davidson motor cycle and said..."Dan, lets get one".  Then when she got off....she changed her mind! ...bummer!

Through the summer we've seen thousands of motor cycles ride through town; most of them were big, beautiful, HD's.  One day, the past president of the Blue Knights drove in with his wife and made room reservations for this winter. The Blue Knights® International Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club  is the largest club in the WORLD!

COOL!!!!

Here are a few photos of some friends who stopped in after a four hour ride, stayed two nights, enjoyed the Vermont back roads, relaxed in the hot tub, had some great meals etc....
Vermont roads are a motor cycle rider's dream come true.  The roads are windy, hilly, and in very good condition.  In fact, several riders have told me that they prefer Vermont to any other part of the country

Vermont Weddings and Romantic Elopements

This lovely couple took the term: "Romantic Getaway" to a whole new level!  Helina and Adrian visited with us for a couple of days this weekend, each secretly creating their own set of surprises for the others enjoyment....ah, and what fun!

It all started when Helina called for the reservation; here desire was to have a series of clues posted around the inn for Adrian to find and solve riddles.  It was a blast to watch as he scrambled to find the next clue while each new guest walked in to watch in amazement at the fun we were all having.  In fact, some guests got into the action trying to participate!  The culmination was a chocolate lava cake with birthday candles on it for Adrian to enjoy, his favorite!  Penny made it special for him just minutes before he and Helina arrived....it was still warm!

Adrian was a very happy man!

Just as we think the story is finished and all ends well for the weekend, Adrian pulls his secret surprise from the hat; an engagement proposal!  Look at that ring!

Adrian woke Helina up out of bed at 4:30 in the morning to take a drive to the Weston Priory, watch the sun rise and make a formal proposal of marriage.  They arrived back at the inn at 6:30 am with these beautiful smiles!

This couple put a whole new spin to the Romantic Bed and Breakfast in Chester Vermont!!!

Great Eats Near Inn Victoria in Chester, VT

The Garden Cafe and Gallery has been mentioned by our guests on several occasions as a "must experience" while lodging in the Okemo Valley.  Located in Londondary, Vermont, the Cafe and Gallery consists of two buildings; one for the restaurant and a very very nice gallery.  The second building houses the health foods store and cafe.

Penny and I decided to stop in for dinner, after having first visited the cafe and store a week earlier.  We were impressed with the store & its numerous health food goodies along with the gallery's original works of art.  We were drawn back.  We decided an evening meal would be fun to enjoy in such a special environment...... it was wonderful, just as we'd expected!

Penny enjoyed the lasagna special and I had the salmon on rice special....the finest salmon plate I've ever eaten...it was fantastic!  And I've had many a salmon!  You simply can't go wrong with the atmosphere in the gallery....mixed with superb food quality; this place has a strong future.  No web site yet...but I am assured it is on the way.

Just a 20 minute drive up Rt # 11, this restaurant offers an additional option to our guests at Inn Victoria

Chester Vermont Rotary likes Inn Victoria CFO

Inn Victoria, a Chester Vermont Bed and Breakfast is in the news again.  The CFO of Inn Victoria, Daniel Cote was recently voted in as Vice President of the Chester Vermont Rotary.

"The Rotary is an organization I have long desired to work with"; says Dan.   In my previous role as an executive at an insurance company (MEMIC) in Maine...I simply did not have the time to devote to the charitable causes I wanted to.  Although Inn keeping is a 24/7 job, flexibility of time is more available to me."  The group of women and men who form this Rotary Club are all leaders in their actions and community responsibilities.  I consider myself fortunate to have been so welcomed and offered the opportunity to serve.

Throughout the year, the Rotary hosts several activities that may be of interest to guests of Inn Victoria.  I promise to make these activities known to you via our monthly newsletter.  The next major event that I know you will be interested in, is the Andy Ladd Scholarship fundraiser held each November.  It will be a live auction and wine tasting event on November 18 at the Stone Hearth Inn here in Chester VT.

Sixtith Wedding Anniversary at an Okemo Vermont Lodging

Penny and I were blessed to have two very special visitors at Vermont's Most Romantic B&B, Inn Victoria.  Bert & Betty were given a fantastic anniversary gift from their children...two nights in the Prince Albert Room of Inn Victoria in Chester Vermont.  And what a wonderful time we ALL had!

While they were here we realized it was also Betty's birthday (29).  We celebrated with them and enjoyed a great time eating Red Velvet Cake from Mam Papauls....the worlds best Red Velvet.  Bert and Betty enjoyed visiting local shops in Chester as well as day trips to Weston and the Vermont Country Store, Grafton, and Jacks dinner in Chester.  We wish them the best and look forward to another celebration with them in the future!  They are an inspirational couple, and Lord knows, we ALL need inspirational mentors in our lives.  These two surely are precious people.

Vermont Inn to Inn Walking Tours

What a GREAT time we enjoyed with six members of the Vermont Inn to Inn Walking Tour.!!  Inn Victoria, an Okemo Valley lodging, is one of four Inns which have partnered to host walkers through the valley.

Here is how it works.

People from around the world, who like walking treks, come to Vermont's Okemo Vally for the splendor of the Green Mountains, clear air & water, country experiences, history and great food!    They fly into a nearby airport such as Boston MA, Albany NY, Hartford CT,  or Manchester NH...all within two hours of Okemo Valley.  One of the Inn Keepers will pick up the hikers at the airport, drive them to Inn #1, such as Inn Victoria and then give them a nice dinner and following morning breakfast.  The walk begins through rolling country hills, fields and back roads which accent the area's beauty, covered bridges, waterways, old farms etc.  After 5-10 miles of walking the trail between the Inns, they are greeted by the next Innkeeper with a nice dinner and following morning's breakfast.  The walkers are off again the next morning for the next inn...and the inn keeper drives their bags ahead to the next inn awaiting their owners.

Today's group was especially fun because two of the group were at Inn Victoria earlier in the year...and...our guests from Germany who were not connected with the walkers were invited by the group to walk the next day's trail.!  What FUN!

Vermont Vacation Package includes High Tea

Many guests rave about High Tea at Inn Victoria, but what a pleasant surprise it is to see a Tripadvisor raving fan for this Chester Vermont Bed and Breakfast's High Tea.  We have been diligent about our marketing efforts to promote High Tea in the Southern Vermont area in addition to a web based focus on potential guests from the big cities on the Eastern Seaboard.  This raving fan drove three hours in a 2002 Corvette to have High Tea with us...WOW!!!

Its working!  So many people have enjoyed High Tea with us since we started on Memorial Day weekend.  Word is spreading through the local communities.  Today we enjoyed a party of nine ladies surprising and celebrating a friend.  All are from nearby Grafton.  A few days from now we will be hosting a party of 20 from the local Red Hat Society.

Each High Tea consists of savories, deserts, berries, chocolates, fruits, a selection of teas.....and a visit from a dashing English gentleman dressed in his period top hat and long tail coat.  What a fun time!

Hand Crocheted doily as a gift to Inn Victoria

Many guests of Inn Victoria visit this Bed and Breakfast near Okemo Vermont to relax and enjoy the taste, feel, and beauty of the many local artisans.  One very special artisan visited Inn Victoria for three days earlier this summer and look at what she mailed us just a couple of days ago! ....an absolutely gorgeous hand made, multi-colored doily; a very precious gift indeed.

The Grenier's visited us in celebration of a very special 40 year wedding anniversary, Although I know they had a great time at our romantic Chester Vermont Bed and Breakfast, I do believe Penny and I had an equally enjoyable visit with them.  A lovely couple with gracious hearts!

Joyce started this doily when she arrived at Inn Victoria and a few weeks later she mailed it to us with best wishes for a great future in the B&B business.  WOW....what a blessing!

Thank you Joyce for your very special gift!  We will cherish it for years to come.

God Bless
