Inn Victoria, an Okemo Valley Bed and Breakfast, recommends Old Town Farm Inn Japanese dinner! One would have to question if a restaurant located many miles from the ocean can consistently provide high caliber Japanese cuisine. I certainly did until I finally tried the Old Town Farm Japanese Restaurant and B&B for myself; I've been there three times now and I must say this is a fantastic restaurant!
Penny and I were there again last night, this time I was able to bring my camera. What a meal! Take a look at these pictures....this is as authentic as it gets! Japanese chef Michiko will amaze and delight you with her traditional yet creative appetizers, entrees and desserts. Savor the flavors that have made ToKai-Tei, her family's restaurant in Honshu a favorite for over one hundred and twenty years. Try the Unagi kabayaki that was the emperor Taisho's favorite in the 1920's and 1930's. If you're a sushi lover, you'll absolutely love what she has for you. Aleks selects the fish vendors from his extensive knowledge of the fish markets and ensures fresh fish delivery, daily! Ask around the area and get your own fix on the pulse of this wonderful restaurant...you'll love it!

Mel Allen of Yankee Magazine visits Chester Vermont
Once a year in the cold of winter, our friends from the Misty Valley Book Store, located on the green here in Chester, host an author's reading. Several authors come prepared to take us into their worlds of imagination. For an afternoon and evening they help us escape from the chill of winter and warm by their perspectives, ideas, travels and mysteries. This year's event was so successful that the little stone village church was filled to the max...I doubt the little church has seen that many people in a very long time! Thanks to Lynne & Bill Reed, there is simply no comparison to the quality and vibrance of culture these two can bring to the Okemo Valley.
One of several guest authors was Mel Allen, editor of Yankee Magazine. Mel is the fifth editor of Yankee Magazine since its beginning in 1935. His career at Yankee spans nearly three decades, during which he has edited and written for every section of the magazine, including home, food, and travel. In his pursuit of stories, he has raced a sled dog team, crawled into the dens of black bears, fished with the legendary Ted Williams, picked potatoes in Aroostook Country, and stood beneath a battleship before it was launched. Mel teaches magazine writing at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst and is author of A Coach's Letter to His Son. His column, "Here in New England," was 2009 National City and Regional Magazine Awards Finalist for the category "Column."
WOW......Put next winter's event on your calendar!

Southern Vermont Weddings at Inn Victoria, a Chester Vermont Bed and Breakfast
Imagine your intimate Vermont Wedding at Inn Victoria in Chester Vermont. Southern Vermont's Best rated Romantic Bed and breakfast is quickly becoming recognized as a great place for intimate weddings. In the last year since we took over ownership of Inn Victoria, Penny and I have been very attentive to the special needs of our guests who want to marry..."its our duty to make it easier for them and provide them with a truly exceptional experience"; says Penny.
In March alone we will host two intimate weddings at Inn Victoria and I promise to blog about them....but in the meantime take a look at some photos of recent engagements, link to our most sought after wedding package, ("I Did It My Way") and look into a small portion of our "closet of love"! That's right, some love-birds have left behind a statement of love in hearts on the inside of the Princess Alice room. There are many and they range back twenty years.

Harry's Cafe is Recomended by Inn Victoria, A Chester Vermont Bed and Breakfast
One of the great joys of owning Inn Victoria of Chester Vermont, are the bountiful opportunities to indulge in great food, particularly at chef owned restaurants. This week Penny and I celebrated some friends wedding anniversary at Harry's Cafe in Mount Holly, approximately 5 miles north of Okemo on Rt# 103. What a fantastic restaurant! "An Oasis for the Passionate Appetite" is the tag line at the top of Harry's web site....I agree and so well said. This place is a MUST on your next trip to the area. Put it at the top of your list.
Trip Pearce started this restaurant over 20 years ago. Seventeen years later Trip married his long time, biggest supporter, Debbie...(she's the Boss). They know how to run a great restaurant....the food is fantastic and the service is right on the mark as well. This small unassuming building from the outside is typical Vermont style, and when inside, you will feel like you are home with friends in the dining room. The choice of foods is plentiful and the quality is very high. I love duck, and enjoyed one of the best ducks I've ever had. Penny enjoyed a roast pork that could be eaten with just a fork. We'll return often, and of course, recommend Harry's Cafe to our guests at Inn Victoria. There is so much more on the menu I want to try. Thursday night is Thai night.....guess where you can find me, next Thursday night!
Enjoy a walk through these photos!

Celebrate the Best at Inn Victoria, Chester Vermont
We celebrate many happy events at Inn Victoria; after all, most people want only the best for their special moments in life. Why not choose Vermont's "Best Romantic Bed and Breakfast", Inn Victoria as named by Yankee Magazine in 2009. Tami & Ed Caporaso have done just that!....when Tami turned 50...(she fooled me, she looks 29), She and Ed, along with great friends, celebrated at Inn Victoria and had a fantastic time! Ed is a smart man. He made sure there were flowers, wine, chocolates....Tami LOVES chocolate, cake, friends and lots of fun to have through the entire time they were here! They had such a great time that it was hard for Penny and me to stay out of the celebration....so we joined right in! I love a great party!
Here are a few photos of Tami, Ed, friends............oh, and a very nice tea cup the Caporaso's sent to us a few weeks later as a thank you gift. We have added it to our tea cup collection and it brings joy to someone each time it is used in a High Tea at Inn Victoria in Chester VT.

The Mill Tavern in Londonderry VT is recommended by Inn Victoria
Inn Victoria, Southern Vermont's Romantic Okemo Valley Lodging recommends The Mill Tavern in Londonderry as one of the "BEST" places to eat in the Okemo Valley region! Some readers of this blog already know Dan's love of great restaurants, and has blogged about several in the last year. Although The Mill Tavern has been on our list of favored restaurants to visit, we've not had the time until this last weekend. WOW, what an original Vermont experience!
A life long artist, and 40+ year restaurantor, Ed Brown has transformed this old mill house building into an active museum of years gone by, filled with thousands of antiques, sketches and painting of his work. The incredible experience starts with a walk into the main dining room...the large fire place is ALL VERMONT. If you are there early enough you can get the front seat directly in front of it. If you come later, your seat can be in the barn bar room where a very large bar and fun await you while waiting for a dining seat.
Oh....the food? Well lets put it this way. This is definitely on Inn Victoria's BEST list! I had duck and Penny had steak....both meals were perfect. I can't wait to go back. When we do return, we will do so with friends, show up on a weekend when the place is very busy so that we can enjoy the Barn Bar atmosphere prior to dinner! Ed personally meets each of his guests...that alone is an experience!
